Santiago Badia, awarded the Agustín de Betancourt y Molina Prize
The CIMNE researcher Santiago Badia has been awarded recently the Agustín de Betancourt y Molina Prize by the Royal Academy of Engineering of Spain.
This award is a recognition to the excellence for young researchers that have been developing their research labour in Spain. Badia, leader of the Large-scale scientific group of CIMNE, asserts that, as a researcher, “the prize is very important because is awarded annually to a researcher younger than 40 years in any field of engineering, which makes it especially meritorious”.
The award was presented at a ceremony of the Royal Academy of Engineering on 22nd November, 2016, at the premises of the institution in Madrid.
Santiago Badia’s research
Badia has developed his research in CIMNE (2008-present), the Technical University of Catalonia (Barcelona, 2002-2006 and 2008-present), the Sandia National Labs (US, november 2006-october 2008), and Politecnico di Milano (Italy, April-October 2006).
The researcher works in the development, analysis and application of numerical methods in different engineering areas as well as other sciences. His research is focused in the advancement of computational engineering and sciences to solve increasingly complex problems. It can be organized in three main blocks: (1) Advanced finite elements methods, (2) highly scalable linear solvers and (3) simulation of multi-physics and multi-scale problems.
His developments have been applied to bioengineering (numerical aproximation to the cardiovascular system), civil and eolic engineerings (aeroelasticity in bridges/wind turbines), manufacturing processes in nanotechnology, 3D printing and fusion technology.
