Coffee Talk - "Can we automatically write an Element?", by Riccardo Rossi

Wednesday, March 8th, 2017. Time: 15h

Place: O.C. Zienkiewicz Conference Room, C1 Building, UPC Campus Nord, Barcelona.

ABSTRACT

The success of the Finite Element Method over alternatives is largely justified by its adaptability to a wide number of physical problems.

The use of the Galerkin method provides a well defined path for going from a PDE to a discrete form which can be manipulated using standard tools to finally provide a well defined output.

In the practice, while such path forward is well defined, the actual implementation effort to pass from the variational form to a working finite element is typically time consuming.

The purpose of present talk is to discuss simple techniques to automatize the implementation step.
