Thermo-Mechanical Framework for Manufacturing Processes

Candidates are welcome to apply for a PhD position at CIMNE (International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering in Barcelona), within the COMET Group (COupled Mechanical and Thermal analysis) in the field of Manufacturing Industrial Processes.

The research consists of developing innovative advanced computational tools for the efficient modelling of chain manufacturing processes involving different sequential operations such as machining, drilling, bending or hiping. Applications are to be sought in the aeronautical, nuclear and automotive industries. The work will involve interdisciplinary knowledge and skills in computational mechanics, finite element analysis and programming.

Preferred Backgrounds: Candidates with Bachelor and Master Degrees in Mechanical or Civil Engineering, with study/research background in structural mechanics and numerical analysis.

 

Mixed Finite Element formulations with Enhanced Stress Accuracy

Candidates are welcome to apply for a PhD position at CIMNE (International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering in Barcelona), within the COMET Group (COupled Mechanical and Thermal analysis) in the field of Mixed Finite Elements for Non-linear Analysis.

The research consists of developing new stabilized mixed finite element formulations for non-linear analysis with emphasis in enhanced stress accuracy. Two specific problems will be addressed: incompressible problems and strain localization. The work will involve interdisciplinary knowledge and skills in computational mechanics, finite element analysis and programming.

Preferred Backgrounds: Candidates with Bachelor and Master Degrees in Mechanical or Civil Engineering, with study/research background in structural mechanics and numerical analysis.

Candidates are welcome to apply for a PhD position at CIMNE (International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering in Barcelona), within the COMET Group (COupled Mechanical and Thermal analysis) in the field of Metallurgy related Manufacturing Industrial Processes.

The research consists of developing innovative advanced computational tools for the efficient modelling of manufacturing processes involving metallurgical aspects related to the prediction of final product properties and service life. Applications are to be sought in the aeronautical, nuclear and automotive industries. The work will involve interdisciplinary knowledge and skills in computational mechanics, finite element analysis and programming.

Preferred Backgrounds: Candidates with Bachelor and Master Degrees in Mechanical or Civil Engineering, with study/research background in structural mechanics and numerical analysis.

 

Plasticity and Damage constitutive models for Non-linear Solid Mechanics

Candidates are welcome to apply for a PhD position at CIMNE (International Center for Numerical Methods in Engineering in Barcelona), within the COMET Group (COupled Mechanical and Thermal analysis) in the field of Plasticity and Damage constitutive models for Non-linear Solid Mechanics.

The research consists of developing new generalized constitutive models for non-linear solid mechanics with emphasis in permanent deformations and stiffness degradation. Two specific problems will be addressed: directional non-linear behaviour and failure. The work will involve interdisciplinary knowledge and skills in computational mechanics, finite element analysis and programming.

Preferred Backgrounds: Candidates with Bachelor and Master Degrees in Mechanical or Civil Engineering, with study/research background in structural mechanics and numerical analysis.
